North Allegheny took the trip to Howland High School in Ohio to participate in the Toni Ross Spirit Foundation Tournament. On the first day, the Tigers drew St. Joseph’s Academy (OH). NA would pick up its first win of the season defeating St. Joseph’s Academy (OH) 47-37.
North Allegheny led 10-8 after a quarter. St. Joseph’s Academy (OH) responded with a big second quarter outscoring the Tigers 17-9 and NA trailed 25-19 at the half. Just like in the Seneca Valley game, Rosalia Varlotta took over in the second half scoring 12 points in a third quarter where the Tigers would take the lead back, 36-32 going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, defense reigned supreme as North Allegheny only allowed five points en route to a 47-37 victory.
Varlotta finished the game with 26 points. Vange Balouris added 12 points.
North Allegheny improves to 1-4 overall. The Tigers return to action today at 1 p.m. when they take on the hosts, Howland (OH), in the Toni Ross Spirit Foundation Tournament Championship game.
