North Allegheny hosted the Lincoln Park Leopards at UPMC Court in the final game of the NA/Wright Automotive Holiday tournament. The Tigers used multiple runs in the second quarter to grab a double-digit halftime lead and handled Lincoln Park by a score of 47-31.
After exploding for 22 points in the first quarter yesterday, it was a slower start for NA as they trailed 6-5 midway through the first quarter. North Allegheny used a 10-0 run that spanned from the middle of the first quarter to the beginning of the second quarter to take a 15-6 lead. After Lincoln Park got on the board to make the score 15-8, the Tigers responded with an 8-0 run and went into halftime up 23-10.
The lead really expanded in the third quarter as NA outscored the Leopards 13-7 in the frame and had a 36-17 lead going into the fourth quarter. For the second straight day, Vange Balouris ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beater three-pointer. With the lead in hand, the Tigers coasted in the fourth quarter to finish off a 47-31 victory.
Rosalia Varlotta led NA in scoring with 14 points. For her efforts in the scoring department along with dominating the offensive glass, Varlotta was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Balouris added 10 points.
North Allegheny improves to 4-5 overall. Lincoln Park falls to 6-4. The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they head to the South Hills to take on Chartiers Valley at 2:30 p.m.
