Girls Basketball drops non-section contest to Chartiers Valley in overtime

North Allegheny traveled to Bridgeville, PA to take on the Chartiers Valley Colts on Saturday afternoon in a non-section contest. The Tigers led most of the way but ultimately fell in overtime by a score of 46-45.

 

NA jumped out to an early 12-5 lead after a quarter of play. North Allegheny got six of their nine points in the second quarter from Rosalia Varlotta and led 21-17 at halftime. Things were even in the third quarter as both teams scored 10 points, and we were headed to the fourth quarter with the Tigers leading 31-27. The Colts made their move in the fourth quarter outscoring NA 13-9, and tying the game 40-40, sending it to overtime. In the overtime period, North Allegheny got a three-point field goal from Vange Balouris but ultimately fell 46-45.

 

Balouris finished the day with 15 points. Rae Shanahan added 11 points while Varlotta had 10.

 

North Allegheny falls to 4-6 overall. Chartiers Valley improves to 4-9. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they host Woodland Hills at UPMC Court at 6:30 p.m. This is part of a girl/boy doubleheader against the Wolverines and will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
